I have two earliest and profound discoveries of the blues. The first was discovering a copy of ZZ Top’s ‘Tres Hombres’ album for $1.00 at a yard sale in my neighborhood. It was an original London copy and I couldn’t wait to get home and play it. The guitar tone and licks I heard that afternoon changed my life forever! I was blown away by the awesome songs on that album. And Billy Gibbons quickly became my favorite guitarist.
My second discovery came from reading about the great B.B. King in a magazine I found out about called Guitar Player. They were talking about this amazing album he had out, “Live at the Regal”. I had to find a copy of that and check it out. Wow! It was amazing. This guy had this strong and soulful voice, and his guitar licks were so smooth. I had found two of my favorite guitarists and both of them played the blues. I knew right then and there I wanted to become a guitarist and play the blues, just like them.

As for me, I currently have 3 albums out: 2 released under my God given name Johnny Searfoss which have a mix of genres on them and my latest under my new persona (devoted to the blues music I love) JS Blues:

I basically write everything, play about 90% on the recordings and come up with the artwork and covers. It’s not necessarily because I don’t want to collaborate with anyone, it’s more because finding devoted (especially regarding blues) musicians who have a great work ethic and want to spend time doing original music are not east to find in my area. So, I do it myself. I enlist help from a few studio musicians when I need to. I recently found two musicians who are willing to put some time in and so far, seem to be working out. So we’ll see what happens. Hopefully, they’ll want to (in addition to playing originals) help contribute to the writing as well. I’m currently in the studio working on my new blues album and hope to release it sometime near the Summer 2021. I also have a country project on the side that has released four singles.
